Many homeowners are not adequately prepare for a home related disaster. Homeowners should have a complete inventory of their home. Include photographs and/or video of personal belongings in each room. Write down each item and record relevant information such as date of purchase, serial number, estimated value etc. The inventory should list or photograph unique features of the home such as expensive cabinetry or antique furniture. A copy of the inventory, photographs and video tapes at an offsite location such as a bank vault or another family members home so they can be recovered quickly in the event of a loss or disaster. This will help the homeowner get back on their feet quickly and maximize their recovery.
